Frequently asked questions

For listeners

What is Fairmus?
Fairmus is a music streaming service that shares your subscription fee only among the artists you listen to. Listening time is counted to the second, so your money goes to the owners of exactly the music you listen to.
How much does Fairmus cost?
Fairmus has two plans. The monthly subscription (Fairmus Premium) costs €4.99 per month, and the first month is free. If you cancel before the trial ends, you won't be charged. Fairmus Premium Unlimited is a one-time payment of €99 and gives you unlimited access to music forever. It includes a family plan, so you can share your subscription with up to four people.
How and where can I buy a subscription?
You can buy a subscription at app.fairmus.com by logging in with a one-time code sent to the email address you enter. On the home page that opens, click “Create subscription” or choose “Subscription” from the menu. You'll then see the available plans. When you choose a plan, Stripe's secure payment page opens in a new window, where you can complete your purchase.

Where can I listen to music on Fairmus?

The Fairmus app is available on the App Store and Google Play. You can also listen in the web player at music.fairmus.com. Log in to both the app and the web player with the same email address you used to buy your subscription.

How is my subscription fee shared among artists?
Your subscription fee is shared only among the artists you listened to, and each gets a share based on how long you listened to their music. Artists you don't listen to don't get any of your money. The full breakdown is below, under “How is the subscription fee divided?”.
Can I get a refund?
You have the right to withdraw from your subscription within 14 days of activating it, as long as you haven't used the service during that time. To withdraw, write to support@fairmus.com. Full details are in the Terms and Conditions for Listeners.
How do I cancel my subscription?
Log in at app.fairmus.com, click “Manage subscription” next to your subscription and cancel it in the Stripe window that opens.

Your subscription stays active until the end of the current period. After that, you won't be charged again.

I have an active subscription in the App Store or Google Play. Why can't I listen to music?

You need to cancel your App Store or Google Play subscription and create a new one at app.fairmus.com. How to cancel the old subscription:

  • Bought through the App Store. Open Settings on your iPhone or iPad, tap your name at the top, choose Subscriptions, tap Fairmus and then Cancel Subscription. See also Apple's guide.
  • Bought through Google Play. Open the Google Play app, tap your profile picture at the top right, choose Payments & subscriptions and then Subscriptions, tap Fairmus and choose Cancel subscription. See also Google's guide.

Your subscription stays active until the end of the current period. After that, you won't be charged again.

How do I delete my account?
Write to us at support@fairmus.com from the email address your Fairmus account was created with, and we will delete your account. Before that, cancel your subscription in Stripe (see “How do I cancel my subscription?”). If you have a subscription bought through the App Store or Google Play, cancel it in the store yourself first, because deleting your account does not cancel a store subscription.

For artists and labels

Uploading

How do I add my music to Fairmus?
Create an account in the artist portal at portal.fairmus.com. First create an artist (if you don't have one yet), then add a new EP, album or single. The release appears on Fairmus on the release date you chose, once the upload fee has been paid through Stripe (or you have chosen to pay from your Fairmus earnings) and we have approved the release.
How much does it cost to upload music?

The fee is charged per track, not per release. You can pay in two ways:

  • Now, through Stripe: €4.99 + VAT per track.
  • Later, from your Fairmus earnings: €9.99 + VAT per track. The amount is deducted from what you earn.

For example, uploading a ten-track album costs €49.90 + VAT if you pay now. You can't request a payout while any upload fee is unpaid.

What format do audio files need to be in?
We only accept WAV files.
What is an ISRC code and do I need one?
ISRC (International Standard Recording Code) is an international standard code for identifying sound recordings. An ISRC code is not required when adding tracks to Fairmus, but you need one to request a payout of your earnings. Fairmus does not create or issue ISRC codes.
Where can I get ISRC codes for my tracks?
You can ask the record label that released the album for the ISRC codes. Distributors (e.g. Spotify, CD Baby, TuneCore, DistroKid) also create ISRC codes. Artists who are members of EAÜ or EFÜ can also ask their society for ISRC codes.
Can I create ISRC codes for my tracks myself?
Yes. You can find instructions on the IFPI website.
I found my music on Fairmus, but I didn't upload it myself. What should I do?
If you own the phonogram rights to this music, write to us at support@fairmus.com. We will verify the rights and let you know how to proceed.

Earnings and payouts

How is the subscription fee divided?
From each listener's subscription fee, we deduct VAT, Fairmus's 10% share, the payment provider's fee and the 12% share of the Estonian Authors' Society (EAÜ). Everything that remains goes to the phonogram rights holder (the artist or label), based on how long the listener listened to their music. This means an artist's share is not a fixed percentage, but depends on listening time.
How do I get paid?
You need to request a payout yourself – Fairmus does not pay out automatically. You can submit a request in the artist portal at portal.fairmus.com once your account has at least €10. Include your bank account number (IBAN) and the account holder's name in the request. If your account is closed, we pay out the full balance even if it is less than €10.
My payout hasn't arrived. What should I check?

Check the following:

  • Have you requested the payout in the artist portal at portal.fairmus.com? Payouts are not made automatically.
  • Does your account have at least €10?
  • Have you paid the upload fee for all your tracks? You can't request a payout while a fee is unpaid.
  • Are your bank account number and account holder's name entered correctly?

If everything is in order and the money hasn't arrived, write to support@fairmus.com and include your account email address and the date you submitted the request.
